Who can apply to be an Auxiliary Cadet?

While all applications are welcome, this particular opportunity may be of specific interest to youth in our community.  We therefore encourage individuals 18-24 years of age or older who have an interest in a future career in policing specifically to apply.  An enhanced security clearance will be conducted for this position and a polygraph may be implemented in the future with the development of the Auxiliary Cadet position within CPS.  For more information click here.

What are the hours of work during my initial training?

The initial training is tentatively scheduled for 6 weeks starting on May 15, 2017.  Training is scheduled Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00 hours.

How many hours are required per week?

The Auxiliary Cadet position will work part-time hours throughout the year which increases up to full-time hours during the summer months (May to August). The majority of the shifts will be 4 hours long, with some shifts as long as 8 hours.  The shifts cover off between 07:00 and 21:00 hours, 7 days per week.  Additionally, ongoing bi-weekly paid training as scheduled (September to May), and assist with other duties as determined by the District or Calgary Police Service.

The  Auxiliary Cadet Program requires a volunteer commitment at community events as well as additional unpaid training/learning commitments.

Is it a paid position?

This is a paid position within the Calgary Police Service.   Auxiliary Cadets are paid a starting wage of $19.98 per hour.

Is this a pre-requisite for applying to become a member of the Calgary Police Service?

Membership in the Auxiliary Cadet Program is not a requirement to become a sworn member of the Calgary Police Service.  However, it may prove an asset during the application process to become a sworn member for work and volunteer experience.

How do I apply?

CPS Auxiliary Class 005 applications were accepted from January 11 to January 25, 2017. The application process for this term is now CLOSED.
